Windows 64bit problems? The first thing you need to do is to enable OpenGL Crosshairs. This is done by checking "Tools > OpenGL Crosshairs". You will also need to enable support for AWE. AWE requires "SE_LOCK_MEMORY" privilege. To enable AWE, follow these two steps: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policies, Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Lock Pages in Memory > Add User or Group > Everyone. You must reboot for this setting to take effect. Finally you will have to download and install the 64bit Safenet drivers from the Safenet website at http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp#  

Windows Vista problems? The first thing you need to do is to disable "desktop composition" for Map3D. This is done by right clicking on the icon or menu item you use to start Map3D and go to "Properties > Compatibility" then check "Disable Desktop Composition". All other problems seem to be related to new security restrictions. You may have to set Map3D to run with administrator privileges so that Vista will permit Map3D to access the hard disk. You may also have to set macro security on low in Excel so that Vista will permit Map3D to run Excel macros. Finally you may have to download and install the Safenet drivers as indicated in the next paragraph.

Excel problems? First thing to try is executing "Detect and Repair". This routine is located on the Excel Help menu.

Key problems? Have a look at EndUserTroubleshooting.pdf  Safenet Inc. (Rainbow Technologies) has released updated drivers for the SentinelSuperpro dongle. The latest Sentinel drivers can be downloaded from the Safenet website at http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp#   These drivers support both 32 and 64 bit computers.

Download problems? These files are available on an anonymous ftp site as www.map3d.com/ftp/setup.exe - www.map3d.com/ftp/map3d.zip - www.map3d.com/ftp/Map3D.chm - www.map3d.com/ftp/Map3D_Help.pdf - www.map3d.com/ftp/Map3D_Help.exe and can be downloaded using WS_FTP (www.ipswitch.com) or other products simply by logging in as an anonymous client. You could also use shareware products like GetRight (www.getright.com) that allow you to resume interrupted downloads from where they left off. Normally you only need to download the updated executables (check the radio button for map3d.zip) as you do not need to update the help files and sentinel drivers etc. every time there are modifications to Map3D.  

 

28 August, 2010:

  • New faster disk I/O routines.
  • - With a fast SSD (e.g. Intel 25-M) you can now achieve over 250MB/sec.

18 August, 2010:

  • Expanded address support for PRAM "Analysis > Options > PRAM".
  • When running Map3D under Win-64bit you can now access all physical RAM installed on your computer.
  • By assigning large amounts of PRAM for storage of coefficient arrays, solutions times can be 10 or more times faster.
  • For example if you install 32GB of physical RAM on you computer you can now access all of this for matrix storage.
  • Bug fix to "File > Save Model".
  • Bug fix to "Tools > OpenGL Pick".

17 July, 2010:

  • New "File > Subtract Restart Files" supports display of change in value of all grid components including excess stress plots.

  • Version 55 features a 10% faster solver, several new features and bug fixes.
  • Compatibility with Windows 7 32-bit and 64 bit.
  • Map3D Visco-Plastic beta-release now available. This new version of Map3D provides full 3D plasticity analysis and is able to duplicate results from other plasticity programs such as Phases, Flace3D, Abacus, Lusas, Adina and Midas.
  • New faster Sentinel key drivers.
  • New equilibrated fault slip material model. This model automatically adjusts the strength distribution to put the fault exactly into equilibrium with the stress distribution at the end of step 1 so it will react to subsequent mining. This can be considered to be the most sensitive state for an active fault.
  • New stress state "Datum". Datum can now be specified as a function of horizontal position. This allows for better specification of pre-mining stress state in sloping terrain.
  • New Hgr toolbar.
  • Excel intermittently failed to respond to Map3D on start up - fixed.
  • New accumulated plastic strain "Eacc" for DD elements.
  • Pick box failed intermittently - fixed.

·         Bug fix to "Plot > Excel Plot (Surfaces) > Area" routine - area was calculated incorrectly - fixed.

31 October, 2008:

·         Bug fix to "Analysis > Options > Move Points" routine - analysis result points near surfaces are now moved to a more representative location giving improved contour appearance and accuracy near stress concentrations.

·         Bug fix to Plot > Options > Blank" routine - analysis result points near inactive surfaces were previously misidentified and caused incorrect results display inside excavations. These points are now identified and blanked properly.

14 August, 2008:

29 April, 2008:

·         Modifications to "CAD > Edit > Move Vertices to X, Y, Z and Plane" - construction line are now extruded to the plane tangent to the construction line. This allows difficult shapes to be flattened for easier construction without loosing geometric shape.

·         Questions regarding inactive and unused blocks not being visible have been corrected so they onloy appear when necessary.

·         Correction to discretization routine - Warning message about subdividing long sides of block was issued in error.

16 April, 2008:

22 December, 2007:

·         Map3D version 54 features new enhancements to solve problems and build models faster:

·         New Probability of failure plots in the Strength Factor Menu.

o        By specifying the uncertainty one has in the failure criterion, prediction reliability can be estimated using probability theory.

o        This feature has been setup for contouring of rockmass, in-plane and ubiquitous plane failure.

·         New 32-bit z-buffering to eliminate rear and front clipping and better display.

o        The near and far clipping region has been extended.

·         New mining-induced strain and Mining-Induced stress plots.

o        The change in stress and strain from the pre-mining condition can now be plotted.

·         New Construction-Line Smoothing options.

o        Smoothing for angular deviations as well as point spacing.

·         New Right-Click editing in CAD interface (as per 30 Nov/07).

·         New user controlled toolbar button sizes (small, medium and large size buttons).

30 November, 2007:

  • New right-click editing functionality:
    • Right-click on blocks, grids or construction lines for editing (CAD > Edit).
    • Hold the Shift key (during right-click) for multiple selections.

    • CAD > Edit > Entity Properties - DD's extruded without prompting for extrusion vector if mixed DD's and FF's are selected - bug fix.
    • Sometimes tool-tips appear beneath tool-bars - bug fix.
    • CAD > Edit > Material Properties - Sometimes host material #1 appears as Elasto-Plastic - bug fix.
    • Course example file HUNG2-36 has inactive gouge material #2 instead Fault-Gouge - fixed.


    12 March, 2007:

    7 April, 2006:

    • Interactive object picking using "View > Length", "Plot > Excel > Polyline", "File > Output Selected Grid Components > Polyline" and "File > Output Selected Surface Components > Polyline" command did not pick edges of elements, always picked corners - bug fixed.
    • Point grids were not plotted - now are plotted as 3-D spheres (as in Visualization. Point grids are created by specifying the same point 4 times for a Grid Plane, or 2 times for a Grid Line.

    27 March, 2006:

    • Hyperbolic backfill model gives incorrect results for thickness not equal to one - fixed for correct results for any value of thickness.
    • Hyperbolic backfill model gives tensile stresses when "Elastic only" is checked - fixed for correct results with "Elastic only".

    • Map3D version 52 features many enhancements to solve problems and build models faster:
    • New Excel plotting routines support selected points and user defined lines.
    • New CAD > Snap > User Defined Coordinate system, Tools > Pick Box Size, Plot > Options > Topo-Contours.
    • Undo/Redo buttons on build toolbar so that complex DDLoop and FFLoop can be easily re-meshed.
    • Remove Vertex/Insert Vertex routines now supplement the Smooth function for construction lines.
    • Improved highlighting of unclosed blocks - these are now marked with a bold white outline.
    • Plot > Polygon Box supplements Average Box routine for finding average and maximum contour values.
