Windows 64bit problems? The first thing you need to do is to enable OpenGL Crosshairs. This is done by checking "Tools > OpenGL Crosshairs". You will also need to enable support for AWE. AWE requires "SE_LOCK_MEMORY" privilege. To enable AWE, follow these two steps: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policies, Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Lock Pages in Memory > Add User or Group > Everyone. You must reboot for this setting to take effect. Finally you will have to download and install the 64bit Safenet drivers from the Safenet website at http://www.safenet-inc.com/support-downloads/sentinel-drivers/

Windows Vista problems? The first thing you need to do is to disable "desktop composition" for Map3D. This is done by right clicking on the icon or menu item you use to start Map3D and go to "Properties > Compatibility" then check "Disable Desktop Composition". All other problems seem to be related to new security restrictions. You may have to set Map3D to run with administrator privileges so that Vista will permit Map3D to access the hard disk. You may also have to set macro security on low in Excel so that Vista will permit Map3D to run Excel macros. Finally you may have to download and install the Safenet drivers as indicated in the next paragraph.

Excel problems? First thing to try is executing "Detect and Repair". This routine is located on the Excel Help menu.

Key problems? Have a look at SafeNet_Sentinel_End_User_Guide.pdf  Safenet Inc. (Rainbow Technologies) has released updated drivers for the SentinelSuperpro dongle. The latest Sentinel drivers can be downloaded from the Safenet website at http://www.safenet-inc.com/support-downloads/sentinel-drivers/   These drivers support both 32 and 64 bit computers.

Download problems? These files are available on an anonymous ftp site as www.map3d.com/ftp/setup.exe - www.map3d.com/ftp/map3d.zip - www.map3d.com/ftp/Map3D.chm - www.map3d.com/ftp/Map3D_Help.pdf - www.map3d.com/ftp/Map3D_Help.exe and can be downloaded using your web browser or other FTP software simply by logging in as an anonymous client. Normally you only need to download the updated executables (check the radio button for map3d.zip) as you do not need to update the help files and sentinel drivers etc. every time there are modifications to Map3D.

For optimum performance you will need to enable two privileges for the user:
SE_LOCK_MEMORY - this is required in order for the Map3D to use the MapUserPhysicalPages api function to access more than 4GB address space using AWE.
SE_MANAGE_VOLUME_NAME
- this is required in order for the Map3D to use the SetFileValidData api function to speed up file writes.

To set SE_LOCK_MEMORY privilege go to:
- In WinXP: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policies
- In Win7:  Control Panel > System and Security  > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy
- Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Lock Pages in Memory > Add User or Group > ####
- Here #### is the user name that you use to log into the computer.
To test this you will need to start Map3D then go to Analysis > Options, and check "P-ram".
Map3D will execute the LoggedSetLockPagesPrivilege api to test the privilege.

To set SE_MANAGE_VOLUME_NAME privilege go to:
- In WinXP: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policies
- In Win7:  Control Panel > System and Security  > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy
- Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Perform Volume Maintenance Tasks > Add User or Group > ####
- Here #### is the user name that you use to log into the computer.
To test this you will need to start Map3D then go to Analysis > Options, and check "Drive 1".
Map3D will execute the LoggedSetManageVolumePrivilege api to test the privilege.

20 January, 2012:
  • Bug fix for cases where s1=s2=s3 - non-principal components were calculated incorrectly.
  • Bug fix to detection of grid points inside excavations - plotted when should be blank.
15 November, 2011:
  • New "CAD > UnGroup DDs" routine.
  • Bug fix to principal stress orientation calculation for cases where s1=s2 or s2=s3, or s1=s2=s3.
  • Bug fix to "Material Properties > Stress State > Cartesian Stress" specification - Cartesian to principal error.
  • Bug fix to "CAD > Edit > Copy Entities" specification - grids not copied when included in list with blocks.
  • Bug fix to contouring algorithm - black triangles drawn in error.
  • Bug fix to "View > Render > Discretize" - display error after Go to CAD.
  • Other miscellaneous bugs fixes that causes unexpected program behaviour.
5 November, 2011:
  • Bug fix to File > Output > Surface Components.
24 October, 2011:
  • Version 59.
  • New "Analysis > Analysis Options > Linear Elements".
  • New multi-segment grid lines.
  • New find and remove duplicated blocks.
  • New find and reattach disconnected surfaces.
  • Numerous other minor bug fixes.

8 October, 2011:
  • Fine tuning of routines used in "Analysis > Options > Move".
  • Upgrading of Map3D Integrated-Seismicity to support multi-processing/multi-disk.

3 October, 2011:
  • New DD to Gplane and Gplane to DD option availble from "CAD > Edit > Entity Properties".
  • This allows for use of all DDLoop features to construct complex Gplane shapes.
  • Faults can thus be modelled as Gplanes first, to determine elastic stresses, estimate reasonable properties and evaluate slip potential. Then easily changed to DD's for plastic slip analysis using "Fault Gouge" or "Equilibrated Gouge".
  • Bug fix - Sometimes "Go To CAD" goes to CAD then in error restarts the stress analysis - fixed.

5 September, 2011:
  • This update is for users of Map3D-VP only.
  • Enhanced solver converges in a smaller number of iterations thus reducing run time.
  • All Map3D bug-fixes and enhancements since the last VP update have been incorporated.

18 August, 2011:
  • Bug fix - Excel plots of strain were presented for absolute only when they are supposed to be toggled between induced and absolute. Contour plots and user function plots were already correct and are not affected.

10 August, 2011:
  • This update is for users of Map3D-VP only.
  • New more stable flow rules allow for solutions of under complex stress conditions.
  • These new flow rules support all 9 possible stress states including:
    s1=Co+q.s3 with support for s3=To
    s1=s2=Co+q.s3 with support for s3=To
    s1=Co+q.s2=Co+q.s3 with support for s2=s3=To
    s3=To
    s2=s3=To
